Oliver's Rare Adventure: Raising Funds for Galactosemia Research

Hello, all my fierce, fantastic friends and family!

I am reaching out to all of you in hopes you will help support a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

As many of you know, Oliver was diagnosed with classic galactosemia when he was just four days old. His condition is a genetic metabolic disorder which effects his ability to process the sugar galactose and it is considered a rare disease (fewer than 200,000 individuals in the US). Like many rare conditions, galactosemia does not receive as much attention and research funding as other more common diseases and conditions. John and I are hoping to change that!

I will be running the Philadelphia Half Marathon on November 19th and we are asking our friends and family to consider sponsoring my race with the funds going directly towards galactosemia research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (Oliver’s hospital).*

We are asking that you give only what you are able to: $100, $20, $10, $5, $2…it all makes a difference! Maybe you can spare the cost of your daily cup of coffee or maybe $13.10 is doable in honor of the 13.1 miles I’ll be running in a few weeks. Or, perhaps you don’t have much to spare right now at all, but you are willing to share this on your Facebook page. That’s amazingly supportive and helpful, too!

Were you thinking about getting Oliver a birthday or Christmas gift this year? Instead of a new toy, consider a donation instead! I promise, promise, promise he will have an awesome, fun birthday and holiday regardless. And considering his favorite thing to play with right now is an empty plastic water bottle, I am certain he won’t miss them! If everyone only donated what they would spend on a birthday card, we’d raise quite a bit of money for sure. (Seriously, have you seen the price of greeting cards recently!?)

We love each and every one of you for considering a donation and helping us spread the word. You are our village! Oliver promises sloppy kisses for all of you.

*None of the donated funds will go towards the race fees and expenses; that’s all paid for. Also, these funds are NOT for any of Oliver’s medical expenses. The funds we are raising are strictly to advance research of galactosemia.
