I’m raising money to help fight childhood cancer and fund lifesaving research and innovative care at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Join me to help CHOP make a difference today!
Why this is so important to me:
In my class last year, I had the good fortune to teach an awesome boy named Jack, whose sister is battling childhood cancer. No family should ever have to face such a horrible diagnosis; but the Massey family faces it every day, and they do so with grace, dignity, and a peace that is truly beyond all understanding. You can read more about this incredible family on the Team Sassy Massey page and Jillian's Ambassador Page.
The year before that, I was privileged to teach another young man who faced childhood cancer himself. He will always stand out in my mind as one of the remarkable ones; a true hero, who exhibited kindness, humor, and depth far beyond his years. I was forever changed by him and his remarkable approach to life, friendships, and learning.
Childhood cancer also hit very close to home in our family in 2000. At that time, our niece's son, Indie, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his brain. He was just a baby. That was a terrifying time, and we had no choice but to put our faith and trust in the professionals at CHOP. Thankfully, in my niece's words, "CHOP saved Indie's life." They continue to monitor Indie all these years later, but he has gone on to live a healthy and productive life. It was a happy ending for us; for far too many others, it is not.
1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they’re 20 years old. 1 in 285 children. In the U.S. By the time they're 20. Those chances shouldn't be so high. They shouldn't even exist.
These children and families who have been directly affected by childhood cancer set a model for all of us; a model of strength, hope, and perseverance... a model of all that is good and real and human in an uncertain and often difficult world. These children and families deserve a miracle. They deserve to see their children well and to see a world that is free of cancer. Please help me support Team Sassy Massey and all of the children and families who face childhood cancer, while simultaneously choosing to find joy in each and every day.
100% of every donation helps CHOP make important breakthroughs in understanding the causes of childhood cancer – and developing treatments that improve cure rates.
