My name is Bridie Anne MacCrory and I am the Senior Director of Finance for HootaThon 2019. I oversee the Fiscal Operations, Fundraising, Corporate Partnership, and High School Dance Marathon Committees. You may already know, but HootaThon is a student-run organization that raises funds and awareness for the Child Life Department at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Child Life Department is an area of the hospital that is run solely on donations. This department provides pet therapy, art therapy, disease education and so much more, not only for the child, but for the family.
I am part of HootaThon for the sake of one child. I dance so that my funds can improve the hospital stay of one child by making them more comfortable courtesy of the Child Life Department. I am very lucky to have had a relatively healthy and normal childhood, but I was close to a few children in my community that were not as lucky and they were treated at CHOP. Luckily, they are CHOP saved. I am with #Dawg'nForACure #ConallStrong #ColesBuddies.
One of HootaThon's Miracle Kids, Samaria, is a constant reminder of why I put endless hours into HootaThon. During a routine ultrasound at a local hospital to determine if baby Samaria would be a boy or girl, the ultrasound technician discovered a severe congenital heart defect. To give Samaria the best chance at life, Samaria’s family chose Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The Fetal Heart Team at CHOP prepared Samaria’s family for what was to come: three open-heart surgeries, reconstructions, three heart catheterizations, coding, CPR, doctors, nurses, specialists, feeding issues, medications, allergies, oxygen issues, and hope. The Child Life Department has had an ever lasting impact on Samaria, her two siblings and her parents, and continues to do so now.
I hope you will consider supporting HootaThon and the Child Life Department at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Any contribution will help, and all donations are tax deductible.
