When I was a kid, I got to do everything a kid enjoys - play sports, have sleepovers, hang out with friends, relax in my house with my family, celebrate birthdays and holidays with loved ones, and go to school. I was fortunate enough to have a childhood.
Kids at my local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) haven't been as lucky. 62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute, and 1 in 10 children in North America are treated at a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital every year. Some of them have been diagnosed with diseases that put them in the hospital for days, weeks, or months at a time. Their lives become limited to the walls of the hospital.
Thankfully, CHOP’s Child Life Department helps these kids get the childhoods they deserve by providing crafts, pet therapy, music therapy, friends, education, and other activities to make them more comfortable in the hospital setting. The Child Life Department is funded solely on donations. HootaThon, Temple University's Dance Marathon, benefits the Child Life Department with year-round fundraising and spreading awareness that culminates in a 12-hour Dance Marathon in which we celebrate the lives of the kids we support at CHOP.
This year, I am beyond ecstatic to lead HootaThon as the Executive Director of our Executive Team. Having this role and being a part of HootaThon has inspired me to make most everything in my life For The Kids. Our campaign for the year is “GrowWithUs.” I aim to grow this year in my position, help HootaThon as an organization grow, and help the Child Life Department grow. I hope you “GrowWithUs” this year and consider making a contribution!
$25 could fund an arts and crafts kit
$50 could fund an practice injection doll
$100 could fund a day’s salary of a Child Life Specialist
My goal this year is to raise over $2000, and I can’t do it without the support of people like you! I hope you consider donating because giving to HootaThon means giving the kids at CHOP a childhood.
