Team Captain Team Evelina 2018 Parkway Run & Walk

My name is Evelina Capelli and I am raising money to help fight childhood cancer and fund lifesaving research and innovative care at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia!

Why this is so important to me:

On April 22, 2016 I was diagnosed with cancer. My doctors found a malignant tumor along my spine. My body's way of trying to fight off the tumor resulted in an autoimmune response (Opsoclonus Myoclonus syndrome) in which my body in turn attacked my brain. My balance and coordination were affected and at two years old I lost the ability to walk. Thankfully I live close to one of the best children's hospitals in the world. I was able to have the tumor removed. Although I still receive infusions at home weekly to build up my immune system, I am doing well and am able to run, jump, dance and enjoy life!

Now I want to help other children with cancer.  1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old.

Breakthroughs Are Upon Us
Every day, CHOP’s Cancer Center team is redefining what a cancer diagnosis means for a child. The center offers the most advanced therapies available anywhere in the world, including cutting-edge clinical trials that reprogram the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. CHOP’s Center for Childhood Cancer Research is one of the most distinguished research programs in the nation.

How You Can Help

Make an Immediate Impact Today.
100 percent of every donation to the Parkway Run & Walk will help CHOP make important breakthroughs in understanding the causes of childhood cancer, developing new treatments that will improve outcomes for children, and one day may lead to a cure for childhood cancer.
