Pediatric cancer is way too common. It's killed some children I know and those who have survived can have lifelong problems from the treatments. That's my huge worry these days - just waiting to see what damage the treatment has done to my girl. I thank God every day for putting her in remission, but because children are treated with adult chemotherapies, which is way too harsh on their little bodies, it can lead to a whole new set of problems. Chelsea sees a slew of specialists now who monitor her. Each appointment I brace myself to hear bad news. That said, we are one of the lucky ones and whatever problems she'll face, they are nothing compared to what she's been through or what so many others are battling right now.
CHOP has been part of some groundbreaking therapies which makes me hopeful, but kids are still dying and one angel child is one too many.
