September 25th marks one year since Maddy was diagnosed with Leukemia. Oh, how far we've come! What serendipity that one year, to the date, that our CHOP Family (our cancer team!) is hosting a run on the 25th to raise money for research. In honor of Maddy and our family's journey we are raising money to conquer childhood cancer by supporting ground breaking research and innovative care at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Join us today!

We will never stop fighting for Maddy. When she passed, we made a promise that we would fight so no other family would have to endure this battle. She will always be our angel and inspiration: our fierce and feisty queen!

When Maddy was first diagnosed and we just wanted her to get stronger and stronger!Fourth of July, when we were out-patient and enjoying our family time!

Why this is important to our team:

PATIENTS NEED US: Parents shouldn’t have to hear the words “your child has cancer,” but 1 in 285 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old.

BREAKTHROUGHS ARE UPON US: Every day, CHOP’s Cancer Center team is redefining what a cancer diagnosis means for a child. The center offers the most advanced therapies available anywhere in the world, including cutting-edge clinical trials that reprogram the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. This is the same medicine (CART) that Maddy received and it allowed us to have three AMAZING months of almost cancer-free time with her. CHOP’s Center for Childhood Cancer Research is one of the most distinguished research programs in the nation.

CHOP IS FAMILY: For the last nine months, we have lived in Philadelphia in temporary housing. Our clinic team and members of the in-patient oncology floor, radiation, and PICU have been our best friends and family since we arrived. We have seen them every week. We share stories of joy, and they have been by our side for our worst days. We have cried together, and we have laughed together. We have shared stories about how Maddy and Hannah will be in the future, and we laugh at photos of the girls being their smart, sassy, and superhero selves. We love our team so much and want to ensure when a family hears the worst news in the world to hear, your child has cancer, they can also go to CHOP and find peace and love with this amazing family.

AT CHOP, MADDY IS N OF 1: Maddy's Leukemia is rare, and it never follows a protocol. That's why we love CHOP. We never bring up the dreaded word "protocol" when we talk about Maddy. We think out-of-the box. A few years ago, treating infant Leukemia out-patient would have been a dream. Maddy would have been in the hospital for this entire time. Our team has made it possible for us to experience life as a family outside the hospital! The team always comes up with the safest, latest and greatest ideas to cure her. And, I love that experts are constantly conferencing each week to talk about each patient. That's right. They talk about each patient to ensure the best possible care and loop in all team members that might have various expertise. WOW. How incredible is this? Maddy is not just a protocol, at CHOP is is "N of 1."
