Welcome to the Hopes & Dreams for Mackenzie Team page! This is our 10th year with a team participating in this event and we are excited to be part of the Parkway Run/Walk once again. We hope that you can join us for this fun, family-friendly event which supports pediatric cancer research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
When our daughter Mackenzie was diagnosed with advanced Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in March 2004 we were devastated, but that was nothing compared to the devastation we've been feeling since she lost her battle to the disease six-years later on March 3, 2010. No family should suffer this pain.
We walk and run In Loving Memory of Mackenzie, hoping that advances in research will bring about better treatment options and a cure.
Here is some information and recent statistics on Childhood Cancer taken from CureSearch.org:
Cancer remains the number one cause of death by disease in children. Despite major advances - from an overall survival rate of 10 percent just forty years ago to nearly 90 percent today, for many rare cancers (such as Mackenzie's), the survival rate is much lower. Furthermore, the number of diagnosed cases annually has not declined in nearly 20 years.
