We are raising money to help create a future without cancer and support groundbreaking research at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Join us — because a future without cancer begins at CHOP!

Why this is so important to us:

Our son, Lucas Yoder, "Luke", is a 2019 CHOP Parkway Run/Walk Ambassador and a survivor of Stage 3 Burkitt Lymphoma! Look out for advertisements on TV, billboards and buses throughout the Philadelphia Area! His amazing survival story is below:

On July 29, 2017, Luke, an otherwise healthy, active, and normal 6 year old boy, was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma. Burkitt lymphoma is a form of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in which cancer starts in immune cells called B-cells. Recognized as the fastest growing human tumor, Burkitt lymphoma is associated with impaired immunity and is rapidly fatal if left untreated. In the United States, there are only about 300 cases of childhood Burkitt lymphoma reported each year.

Luke had few symptoms but they came on fast and were quickly noticed. He complained of pain when eating, even though he was hungry and he could only eat a few bites of food at one sitting. He was very irritable, unusual for such a happy and healthy boy. The final sign was his distended stomach, he looked as if he was 6 months pregnant. Luke was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and after a number of tests, scans, and biopsy's he was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma.

Luke was a real fighter through all of the initial tests, surgeries and chemotherapy. Brave beyond his years, Luke was been faced with a monumental challenge and did not backed down. Although he didn't love taking the medicine, who would, he understood the importance and faught through every session. Luke's saying on the first night of chemotherapy was "I can do this. I can fight it. I am stronger."

Luke fought his cancer for 5 long months, and on November 29th, 2017, the doctors at CHOP confirmed to Luke that he was CANCER FREE!!

The funds raised will help support the research of childhood cancer treatments that save lives like Luke's.

Without your efforts CHOP could not fund the research of such treatments as targeted therapies that zero in on cancer cells and kill them or immunotherapy drugs that use a patient's own immune system to kill cancer.

Please join Luke's effort today by making a donation and walking with us. Your participation in the Parkway Run/Walk will save lives not someday, but today.

Be sure to check our team page frequently to see our progress!

Thank you for bringing us all closer to living in a world without childhood cancer!

and remember

"I can do this. I can fight it. I am stronger."

Parents Need Us
Parents shouldn’t have to hear the words “your child has cancer.” However,  1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old.

Breakthroughs Are Upon Us
Every day, CHOP’s Cancer Center team is redefining what a cancer diagnosis means for a child. The center offers the most advanced therapies available anywhere in the world, including cutting-edge clinical trials that reprogram the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. CHOP’s Center for Childhood Cancer Research is one of the most distinguished research programs in the nation.

How You Can Help

Make an Immediate Impact Today.
100% of every donation to the 2019 Parkway Run & Walk, presented by Citadel, will help CHOP make important breakthroughs in understanding the causes of childhood cancer, developing new treatments that will improve outcomes for children, and one day may lead to a cure for childhood cancer.

Thank you for your support!
