My name is Tommy Ryan. On March 2, 2001, I was the 36th patient to receive open womb, fetal surgery for spina bifida myelomeningocele at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. My mom lived at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden for six weeks after the surgery, and I was "born" a second time on May 13, 2001. Growing up in the CHOP community, I have realized how truly blessed I was and still am to have such a great support system from the doctors, nurses, therapists and all my friends and family. To show my gratitude, I want to raise money to help other families like mine. This summer, my dad and I will be attempting to ride our bicycles across the country from New Jersey to California. We would love for you to follow along with us on this journey for a brighter future for fetal surgery families! All of your donations will be sent directly to CHOP.
